Gold Making Charges Explained (Labour, Wastage & How to Negotiate)
Making charges are the jeweller's labour fee added on top of the gold value, charged either per gram/tola or as a percentage (commonly 5–25% depending on design), sometimes with a separate wastage charge.
Jewellery price = gold weight × today's karat rate + making charges + wastage + stone charges (+ tax where applicable).
Tips
Compare making charges, not just the gold rate. Machine-made chains are cheaper to make than handcrafted bridal sets. Ask how much will be deducted when you sell back.
